Club tours new Loveland Open Space

Eleven club members got an impressive first look at the city's new open space property on Oct. 20,  130 acres that was part of the city's purchase from Agilent for the new ACE technology park.  With three gravel ponds totaling nearly 60 acres, it has great potential as a new public fishing area.

The property has had limited use as a private park, and the largest pond, about 22 acres, has three small docks and has been a catch-and-release, barbless hook fishing area.

Brian Hayes, city open lands director, says public hearings will be conducted in early 2012, with the goal of opening the property to public use next fall.

The land is adjacent to the city's existing two Jayhawkeer Ponds, where the Loveland Fishing Club built a float tube launch three years ago and has since worked with the Division of Wildlife to install fish structures and two fish feeders to try to increase the size of fish in the ponds.
