Volunteers needed: Derby a bit early this spring: Saturday, May 18th

Loveland's Kids Fishing Derby, an annual event that's been held each spring for decades, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th at the North Lake Park Duck Pond.

Signups for volunteering for the derby began at Tuesday's general meeting, but more help will be needed to ensure another successful day of fishing for hundreds of Larimer County youngsters.

Organizers include the Loveland Fishing Club, which handles prizes for raffle winners and biggest and smallest trout of the day, event registration, tackle for kids who need it, measurement of fish. Other organizers include the Loveland Kiwanis Clubs that provide low-cost food and drink, and Colorado Youth Outdoors to teach participants how to clean, cook and eat their fish. Colorado Parks and Wildlife stocks the pond with catchable trout.

For more information, contact the Fishing Club Derby Chair Bob McHale, bdexpress@centurylink.net.

This is one of the club's biggest events, and we need all hands on deck.
