So, where's a picture of that big fish of Lou's?

It occurs to me that the club should be more regularly represented on the Loveland Reporter-Herald's weekly Outpost page, under their headline, "Fishing photos sought."

We all loved seeing Roseanne's recent photo from the Amazon of her and a couple killer piranhas, but we should also see a regular sampling of club members' catches closer to home.

The paper asks, "Had any luck fishing lately?"  You just send a jpg format photo to "Catch of the Week" at news@reporter-herald.com.  If you need some help with a first-time submission, ask someone else in the club.  Include your name, type of fish, and when and where the fish was caught.  Also include your phone number, which won't be published but needed in case they have questions.

Please don't submit pictures that are too obviously fish kills or employ one past president's time-honored tactics of holding a prize catch way out toward the camera lens.  Save that for attempted verification of biggest fish in the annual club tournament.

Let's see how this works: we now have e-mail delivery of club blog news!

Okay gang.  As I mentioned at Tuesday's meeting, I have gone in and signed up every club member to have all news items posted to our Loveland Fishing Club Blog automatically routed to your e-mail account, using the e-mails listed on George's membership list as of Feb. 7, 2014.

I hope to add additional IDs of new members and members late in submitting their 2014 dues, as they come in.  Reminder, these were all filled in by hand, by a retiree, so an occasional error is inevitable.  Let me know if you see this on the blog but didn't get it delivered to your e-mail address.  And before you complain about incompetence in high places, I say this:  hey, these were filled in by hand, by a retiree.

This should help us communicate more effectively by ensuring that everyone gets news as they're posted.  Not sure how this new Google tool works with photos, so you might go ahead and look at the blog too.  And I'll stick a photo of one of our prettier club members below to see how it looks.

Let me know how you like it.  This should make it a little easier for George in trying to keep us informed, and he'll continue to maintain our distribution list and post news and reminders to us as needed.

See Rick's incredible car collection

If you've not seen Club member Rick Haskell's collection of beautfully restored cars, you'd be most welcome to visit his place this Saturday, Feb. 22, at 9 a.m.

The address is 3840 S. Garfield Ave., Loveland; and Rick can be reached at 970-593-2923.

Directions:  287 South from Loveland, turn west onto 42nd St SE (County Road 14). Take first right to S Garfield.

Back on the water

Literally.  Ron Halverson, not long from that kidney transplant of his, turned up at Douglas Reservoir Thursday along with about 10 other club members for a morning of ice fishing.  Fishing was slow, but t'was a great warm, sunny day to be out on the ice.

Douglas fishing well

Barbara and Dennis Ding hit Douglas early on Saturday and got into some quick good fishing.
"A real hoot to start off," Barbara says; it was still way to cold for comfort on Saturday, but in an hour and a half fishing Barbara caught two nice rainbows and lost several more.  Here's the haul:

Float tube outing featured in Fish Explorer

Fish Explorer, a website reaching more than 15,000 anglers in five states, has published an article on our float fishing expedition to Chilson Pool.

To read all about it, click here.  The club's second float tube outing of the winter is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, also in the balmy water of Chilson Pool.  A follow-up, open water fishing trip with float tubes is tentatively set for ice-out at a local lake near you.

It's float tubing time

Our club is made up of three diverse elements:

  1. Those who really like to fish from a float tube or pontoon boat.
  2. Those who think they would really like to fish from a float tube or pontoon boat
  3. Those who think the rest of us are nuts.

Categories one and two are getting together in the Chilson pool twice over the next few weeks, giving some a chance to show off their gear, others to try out the sport for themselves.

Members are bringing several types of float tubes and fins to the pool from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, ensuring everyone will get personal attention and help.  If you're going (unless you're like John Brady, who says he's coming, but just wants to watch), bring your swim suit and a towel.  Unless you have a Silver Sneaker or Chilson Recreation Center membership, the cost is $3.25, which covers the cost of admission to Chilson for the day.  When we venture out onto a local lake this spring you'll also want a life jacket and chest waders, but Chilson promises its pool is both shallow and warm.

The goal is to create a cadre of knowedgeable, crafty float tubers for trips this spring, summer and fall to Front Range and high mountain lakes.  Maybe we'll call ourselves the Loveland Fishing Club Float Tube Flotilla.

For further information on this one, contact Tom Miller.
