Al Noraker is again transforming his truck and boat combo into a memorable Veterans Day Float for the annual Loveland parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11. And he's floating the need for a couple additional vets to ride along. Interested? Contacted Club President Dave Johnson asap by phone or text at 914-509-0478. Or see him at Tuesday's annual club picnic at Old Fairgrounds Park.

2026 Club Derby: Rick and Tom battle to a ... draw

Image
The rotating trophy awarded to the winner of the Loveland Fishing Club's annual Derby will be shared for the coming year by Rick Golz and Tom Cochala, each of them recording a catch of 12 fish Tuesday at River's Edge Natural Area. After a drawing, Rick also captured the $50 top prize and Tom $25, but both anglers' names will be engraded on the trophy.  Bob Dierkes was also a big winner at the event, pulling his own name out of a hat to take home a Kast King rod and reel combo donated by fellow club member Al Noraker.  The Derby was at Rivers Edge instead of Flatiron Reservoir this year, with new rules dictated by the chance in venue. There was no reward for Don Knudsen for landing the biggest fish of the day except the admiration of his peers, after he caught a 20-inch largemouth bass at Sandpiper Pond. Hey, congratulations Don. Here's a photo of Rick, left, and Tom and the Derby Trophy. Additional photos can be found on a Google Photos album by clicking here . Feel fr...

Annual Club Picnic is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Old Fairgrounds Park

Image
In a tradition as old as the Loveland Fishing Club itself, the annual club picnic will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20th at the pavilion in Old Fairgrounds Park. This also serves as our October general meeting, usually held at Chilson Senior Center.  Chair of the event, John Gwinnup, says the club will provide the main dish - pulled pork from Texas Road House and chicken thighs and breasts. To round out the meal, and demonstrate culinary or purchasing skills, please bring a dessert of side dish. And bring your own eating utensils. The picnic is free to individual members and couples.  Questions: Call or text John at 970-231-5448.

Who Will Emerge as the Club's 2026 Derby Champion? Don't forget, the Derby Will Be Tuesday, Oct. 13!

Surely, someone will raise their rod in triumph this year.    In a 2025 day that will live in infamy, Colorado's legendary Loveland Fishing Club's finest anglers were completely skunked at last year's Club Derby. The embarrassing outcome, or lack of outcome I guess, was the first in club history, held annually to determine who would crowned club champion and have their names forever embedded on the rotating Derby Champion Trophy. Last year's contest was held on the scenic shores of Flatiron Reservoir, with the winner supposed to be the angler catching the largest stringer of four trout. Instead, the entire contingent of competitors were completely and memorably Fishless . In this year of record heat and record drought, how do we avoid a repeat of 2025? Ha! Instead, this year the Derby will be held on the ponds of River's Edge Natural Area.  So join us at the Pavilion just west of Bass Pond sometime before 9 a.m. to plot your winning strategy. We'll fish from 9 ...
